LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Isaiah Wunsch of Traverse City as well as the reappointments of Andrew Riley of Mears and David Smeltzer of Bear Lake to the Michigan Cherry Committee.

The nine-member committee develops and implements marketing efforts for Michigan's cherry industry.

“I thank these individuals for their commitment to promoting Michigan’s cherry industry,” Snyder said.

Appointment:
Wunsch is the managing partner/CEO of Wunsch Farms, a third-generation orchard of sweet black cherries and apples. Prior to managing his family farm, Wunsch worked at the Michigan Economic Development Commission as an agribusiness specialist and was a constituent relations assistant to state Sen. Howard Walker. Wunsch holds a bachelor’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in agriculture from Michigan State University. He will replace Paul Hubbell.

Reappointments:
Riley is the manager of Riley Orchards, which farms 800 acres of sweet and tart cherries, asparagus, apples, and peaches.

Smeltzer is a member of West Wind Orchards, LLC, a fourth-generation apple and cherry farm. He is a life-long cherry farmer with experience in research and development.

Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Feb. 1, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
