Gov. Snyder makes reappointments to the Tree Fruit Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Fred Koenigshof of Coloma, Rick Sayler of Williamsburg, and Steve Thome of Comstock Park to the Michigan Tree Fruit Commission.

The nine-member commission was established by growers in 2014 to improve the economic position and competitiveness of the Michigan tree fruit industry.

“I thank these individuals for their commitment to ensuring the success of the tree fruit industry in Michigan,” Snyder said

Koenigshof is the owner of K & K Farms. He previously served as president of the Michigan State Horticultural Society and the Michigan Great Lakes Expo, and currently serves as the president of the Watervliet Fruit Exchange. Koenigshof holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Western Michigan University.

Sayler is the owner of Sayler Orchards and has worked there for more than 38 years. He is a licensed pesticide applicator and serves as the director of the North West Michigan Horticultural Research Foundation. Sayler also served on the Grand Traverse Chamber of Commerce and as the interim director for the Michigan Tree Fruit Commission. He holds an associate’s degree from Northwest Michigan College and a bachelor’s degree in pomology from Michigan State University.

Thome is a member of Thome Orchards, LLC. Thome served as the president of the Michigan State Horticultural Society and as chairman of the Michigan Apple Research committee. He holds an associate’s degree from Ferris State College.

Members will serve three-year terms expiring March 1, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
