Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the State Board of Architects

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Patrick Barry of New Hudson, Gilbert Barish of DeWitt, and Jay Larson of Marshall to the State Board of Architects.

The nine-member board regulates the practice of architecture and oversees more than 5,000 licensed professionals.

"I thank these individuals for their continued commitment to overseeing Michigan architects," Snyder said.

Barry is a project architect with Neumann Smith Architecture and previously served as a project architect and manager with Fusco, Shaffer, and Pappas, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in architecture from Lawrence Technological University. He will continue to represent architects.

Barish is president and owner of Geodetic Designs Incorporated. He also is a member of the Olive Township Future Land Use Committee and is a guest speaker at Ferris State University’s Surveying Engineering program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in surveying engineering from Ferris State University. Barish will continue to represent the Board of Professional Surveyors.

Larson is president of Larson Enterprise SW LLC. He is a metallurgical and product development consultant and recently retired as vice president of technology and chief engineer of TEC Inc. He holds 21 U.S. patents and has published 44 technical publications. Larson holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, a master's degree in materials science, and a Ph.D. in metallurgy from the University of Washington. He also holds a master's in business administration from Western Michigan University. He will continue to represent the general public.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring March 31, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
