LANSING, Mich. — First Lady Sue Snyder today announced the creation of a campus sexual assault workgroup tasked with developing resources for campus sexual assault survivors.
“This is a vitally important issue for Michigan and I look forward to seeing how this workgroup can develop the necessary resources for sexual assault survivors,” Snyder said. “As a state, we need to do everything we can to make sure survivors receive the support and resources they need in order to start the long journey toward healing. This is another step forward as we continue our work to make Michigan a model state in addressing sexual assault on college and university campuses.”
Snyder has asked the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board to create a workgroup for developing resources for campus sexual assault survivors that will be available to Michigan campuses and their community partners. These resources would provide campus sexual assault survivors with information about support services in Michigan, including:
- Information about Title IX;
- Survivors’ options to file for a sexual assault personal protection order;
- How to connect with law enforcement for help;
- The availability for a sexual assault medical forensic examination;
- Where to find campus and community support services.
The workgroup will include campus leaders, sexual assault service providers and community and state partners. The workgroup is charged with generating a survivor toolkit to be unveiled and distributed at the third “Inform. Empower. Prevent.” summit on Sept. 25.
The day-long summit will be hosted at Eastern Michigan University with the goal of making Michigan a model state in the fight against sexual assault among the college-age population. The summit will continue the conversation of campus assault and is an ongoing campaign to inform communities, empower individuals and ultimately bring an end to campus sexual assault.
Additional summit details, registration options, speakers and a full summit agenda will be updated in the coming weeks and can be found at www.endcampussexualassault.com.
