Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the City of Flint Receivership Transition Advisory Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Paul Newman of Flint and William Tarver of Birmingham to the City of Flint Receivership Transition Advisory Board.

The board was first named in April 2015 after the city of Flint transitioned back to local control.

“I am confident Paul and William will work well with the members of this board and with local leaders to ensure Flint’s continued financial stability," Snyder said.

Newman retired in 2006 from his position as president and CEO of Urban League of Flint. He is a member of the Genesee Intermediate School District Board of Education and chair of the Mass Transportation Authority board of directors. Newman holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tri State College. He will represent members with relevant professional experience and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Finney.

Tarver currently teaches classes on entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan. He was previously the founder and president of Red Bank Education and Development Initiative and of Telecom Analysis Systems, Inc. Tarver holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He will represent the Director of the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Michael Townsend.

Other members of the city of Flint RTAB include: Frederick Headen, representing the state Treasurer, and Joel Ferguson who represents members with relevant professional experience. Members serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
