Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Beef Industry Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Dave Clark of Clifford, as well as the reappointments of Bret Schapman of Almont and Garry Wiley of Gladwin to the Michigan Beef Industry Commission.

The nine-member commission promotes the sale of beef and beef products in the state.

“These individuals have years of experience in Michigan’s agriculture industry. I thank them for their service on this commission and I am confident they will positively promote Michigan’s beef industry,” Snyder said.

Appointment:

Clark is the owner/auctioneer of David Clark Auction Services and an auctioneer for the Clare County Livestock Auction. Clark’s business serves cattle producers around the state who market their cattle through his weekly auction sale and special feeder cattle and cow auctions. He is an industry leader who is working to improve and grow the cattle business in Michigan. Clark holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Michigan State University. He will represent cattle marketers and replace Scott Acker.

Reappointments:

Schapman is the owner of Ingleside Farms and has farmed for 30 years with 2,000 acres of corn, soybeans, and hay. The farm raises 4,000 steers per year. In 2011, the farm hosted the Minister of Economic Affairs for the Korean Embassy. Schapman was named Young Cattleman of the Year in 2010 and Michigan Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Ag Leader in 2011. Schapman holds a bachelor’s degree in beef cattle management from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent cattle feeders. 

Wiley is the owner of G & Triple J Farms and has farmed for 37 years with over 600 acres of hay, pasture, and land enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program. The farm is a beef cattle cow/calf operation and averages 150 cow/calf pairs a year. Wiley served on the NCBA Executive Committee as the Region 1 Federation Division vice president. He also served on the Michigan Bovine Tuberculosis Advisory Committee and the Farm Bureau Livestock Committee. He will continue to represent cattle breeders. 

Members will serve three-year terms expiring May 31, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
