Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Carrie Anderson of Wyoming and Christi Cook of Kingston to the Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers.

The seven-member volunteer board oversees admissions and member affairs at the state’s veterans' homes in Marquette and Grand Rapids. Members represent the interest of veterans in advisory and advocacy roles and are nominated for board service by fellow veterans and peers in veterans’ organizations across the state.

"I thank Carrie and Christi for their commitment to this board and ensuring Michigan veterans receive the care they deserve," Snyder said.

Anderson served in the U.S. Army and is currently the manager of veterans’ services for Kent County. She previously served as an auditor for the Kent County Community Development and Housing Commission. Anderson is the president of the Michigan Association of County Veteran Counselors and a board member of the West Michigan Veterans Coalition. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cornerstone University. She will represent veterans and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of John Thorhaurer, who now serves on the Michigan Veterans' Facility Authority Board of Directors.

Cook is the owner of Heroes Harvest Farm and previously served as an operations intelligence analyst for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. She is the commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Marlette and a founding member of the Michigan Farmer Veteran Coalition. Cook holds a bachelor’s degree in professional and technical writing from Saginaw Valley State University. She will represent veterans of foreign wars and replace Paul Potter, who now serves on the Michigan Veterans' Facility Authority Board of Directors..

Anderson will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring February 28, 2019. Cook will serve a three-year term expiring February 28, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
