Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of Daniel Tinkey of St. Joseph and James Winkler of Allendale to the Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers.

Housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 11-member board assists in overseeing the licensure and practice of athletic trainers.

“I thank Daniel and James for their continued commitment to overseeing the athletic training profession,” Snyder said.

Tinkey is an athletic trainer within the Lakeland Orthopedic Physical Therapy Lakeland Regional Health System. He has more than 36 years of experience in the field, and previously taught physical education, math and athletic training. Tinkey holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education and mathematics from Western Michigan University. He will continue to represent athletic trainers.

Winkler is an associate athletic trainer with Grand Valley State University where he works with prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries concerning basketball, golf, and football. He previously served as an assistant athletic trainer at Grand Valley State University, coordinator of athletic training/head athletic trainer at Northern Michigan University, assistant athletic trainer at Wayne State University, and athletic trainer at Greater Flint Sports Medicine Center. Winkler holds a bachelor’s degree in health and fitness management and a master’s degree in exercise science from Northern Michigan University. He will continue to represent athletic trainers.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
