Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Education Commission of the States

Wednesday, Aug.2 , 2017

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Tyler Sawher of Lansing to the Education Commission of the States.

The Education Commission of the States was created in 1965 to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders. 49 states, three territories and the District of Columbia constitute the commission's current membership. Each member state or territory is represented by seven commissioners -- the governor and six other individuals.

"I thank Tyler for his service to this commission and his commitment to bettering public education," Snyder said.

Sawher is the senior strategy advisor for education and career connections within the Executive Office of Governor Snyder. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan. He will replace Karen McPhee.

Sawher will serve a term expiring at the pleasure of the Governor.
