Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the Health Information Technology Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Thomas Simmer of Ann Arbor to the Michigan Health Information Technology Commission.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the 13-member commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of Michigan's health care information systems.

"I thank Thomas for his commitment to this commission and to improving health technology statewide," Snyder said.

Simmer is the senior vice president and chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, where he was previously the vice president and corporate medical director. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He will represent nonprofit health care corporations operating pursuant to the nonprofit Health Care Corporation Reform Act and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Robert Milewski.

Simmer will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Aug. 3, 2018. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
