Friday, Aug. 18, 2017

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Brian Matchett of Traverse City to the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Task Force.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Transportation, the 27-member task force will develop statewide policy recommendations on the operation, use, and regulation of unmanned aircraft systems in this state. Individuals were nominated by their respective associations/departments for consideration by the Governor. The task force will submit a report to the Governor and standing committees in the House and Senate within three months after its first meeting.

“As technology continues to evolve it’s increasingly important that rules and regulations develop at the same speed,” Snyder said. “I thank Brian for his commitment to developing these regulations.”

Matchett is the program coordinator for the professional certificate programs at Northwestern Michigan College through the Institute of Agricultural Technology at Michigan State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in AgriScience, a secondary teaching certificate, and a master’s degree in agricultural and extension education, all from Michigan State University. He will represent a member of a statewide agricultural association, nominated by the president of the association.

He will serve an initial three-year term expiring July 31, 2020.
