Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointment to the Michigan Aeronautics Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Russ Kavalhuna of Battle Creek to the Michigan Aeronautics Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Transportation, the nine-member board governs all airports, flight schools, and other aeronautical activities within the state.
"Russ has years of aviation experience and I am confident he will continue to be a positive asset to this commission,” Snyder said.
Kavalhuna is the executive director of flight operations at Western Michigan University and previously served with the United States Department of Justice as an assistant United States attorney. Kavalhuna served as senior law clerk to Justice Michael Cavanagh with the Michigan Supreme Court. His aviation experience includes five years as an airline pilot for US Airways Express and time as a certified flight instructor with Western Michigan University. Kavalhuna holds a bachelor's degree in aviation flight science from Western Michigan University and holds a degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
He will serve a four-year term expiring May 27, 2021. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
