Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the State Fire Safety Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Jeramie Morris of Saginaw, Lindsey Haley of Ada, Tina Kerr of Eaton Rapids and Robert Williams III of Dexter to the State Fire Safety Board.

In cooperation with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs' Bureau of Fire Services and fire organizations throughout the state, the 17-member board assists with the development of fire safety rules for the construction, operation and maintenance of various public facilities.

“I thank this group for their willingness to serve and I am confident they will help develop and improve fire safety rules that will benefit all of Michigan,” Snyder said.

Morris is a global fire protection manager for the Dow Chemical Company. He is also an assistant chief and hazardous materials technician for the Saginaw Township Fire Department. Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and communication from Saginaw Valley State University. He will represent the chemical manufacturing industry and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Donald Hicks.

Haley is the director of operations for Leisure Living Management. She previously worked as an registered nurse for Spectrum Health and Grand Rapids Allergy. Haley holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Calvin College and is a registered nurse with the State of Michigan. She will represent owners of adult foster care facilities and replace David Henry.

Kerr is the deputy executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators. Throughout her career, she has served as an elementary principal, a middle school principal, and a total of nine years as a superintendent. Kerr holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bethany College, a master’s degree in educational administration from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Michigan State University. She will represent individuals who are members of, or are employed by, a statewide association representing school board members or school administrators, and will replace Amy Hodgson.

Williams is a business agent for Sprinkler Fitters Local 704 and was previously a journeyman for John E Green, WM Crook Fire Protection, and Wolverine Fire Protection. He completed a building trades apprenticeship with the United Association Sprinkler Fitters 704. He will represent building trades and replace Greg Herman.

Morris will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring July 15, 2020. Haley, Kerr and Williams will serve four-year terms expiring July 15, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
