LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Kristin Beltzer of Haslett to the Michigan Education Trust (MET) board of directors.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Treasury, the nine-member board oversees the function of the MET program. MET is a Section 529 prepaid tuition program that helps Michigan residents save for higher education while avoiding rising tuition rates.
The MET board also serves as an advisory board for the Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP). MESP is a Section 529 direct-sold college savings program that helps Michigan residents save for higher education.
“Kristin brings years of diverse experience and I thank her for serving on this board to help oversee policy and program development, and investment initiatives," Snyder said.
Beltzer is the executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. Prior to her 10 years with the Chamber, Beltzer served as assistant vice president for Fifth Third Bank and a senior account executive for The Sterling Corporation. She also served 13 years as a trustee on the Haslett Board of Education. Beltzer holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. She will represent persons with knowledge, skills, and experience in the academic, business, or financial fields and replace Eliya Boji.
Beltzer will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
