LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Dori DePree of Saugatuck and Eric Kuiper of Grand Rapids, as well as the reappointments of Terry Terry of East Lansing and Brian Winn of Okemos to the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council.
Housed within the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the 14-member Council advises the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office, Governor and Legislature on how to promote and market aspects of the state's film industry.
"I thank these individuals for their commitment to encouraging and promoting film production in Michigan," Snyder said.
Appointments:
DePree is a co-founder and board member of the Waterfront Film Festival in Holland, Michigan. She previously worked as a casting director for Michigan Casting Services and as the head of education outreach for TickTock Studios in Holland. DePree holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations, both from Michigan State University. She will represent broad areas of film and motion picture making, production of television programs and commercials, and related industries in Michigan, and replace Hopwood DePree.
Kuiper is the chief creative officer for Celebration Cinema. He has served on the Ad Hoc Council Executive Committee for the Grand Rapids Film Society, and as an advisory board member for River City Improv. Kuiper holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Calvin College and a master of theology in popular culture from Fully Theological Seminary. He will represent Michigan-based theater owners and replace John Loeks.
Reappointments:
Terry is the founder, president and CEO of MessageMakers. He previously served as a special consultant in communications for Michigan Government Television; a cameraperson and segment producer for Nightline, NBC Sportsworld, CNN, and PBS; and as an instructor for the Michigan State University College of Education, developing the college’s first multi-media classroom and teaching media production to undergraduates. Terry holds a bachelor’s degree in policy sciences and a master’s degree in instructional development and technology, both from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent broad areas of film and motion picture making, production of television programs and commercials, and related industries in Michigan.
Winn is an associate professor at Michigan State University and director and principal investigator of the Games for Entertainment and Learning (GEL) Lab. Winn holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in computer science and engineering Michigan State University. He will continue to represent residents of the state.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring Sept. 20, 2021.
