LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Amanda Williams of Grand Rapids and Jill Skutar of Lansing, as well as the reappointments of Daniel Blower of Ypsilanti, Dave Goller of Rockford, Sharon Conklin of Comstock, and Timothy Yungfer of Bath to the Michigan Truck Safety Commission.
The 11-member commission develops and administers programs addressing truck safety.
“I thank this group of individuals for their work developing truck driver education programs,” Snyder said.
Appointments:
Williams is a human resources director for Williams Distributing, and also serves on the board of advisors for the company. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education in English from Michigan State University. She will represent the general public and replace Robert Ramels.
Skutar is the director of marketing and communication for the Michigan Trucking Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Michigan State University. She will represent the Michigan Trucking Association and replace Walter Heinritzi.
Reappointments:
Blower recently retired from his position as an associate research scientist with the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Michigan. He will continue to represent four-year colleges.
Goller has been a business representative for General Teamsters Local Union No. 406 for ten years. He has nearly 30 years of truck-driving experience and received the Two Million Mile Safe Driving Award. He will continue to represent organized labor.
Conklin retired in 2015 as a safety director for Van’s Delivery Service, Inc. She has more than 40 years of experience in the transportation industry working for Modular Transportation, Inc., Amazon Transportation, Ryder Dedicated Logistics, and TransAmerican Freight Lines. Conklin studied accounting at Henry Ford Community College. She will continue to represent private motor carriers.
Yungfer retired from the Michigan State Police after serving nearly 40 years at several posts around the state, including the Motor Carrier Division, the Human Resources Division, the Executive Division, and the Office of the Director. He is a former member of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Yungfer holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Alma College. He will continue to represent the general public.
Members serve two-year terms expiring Aug. 4, 2019. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the state Senate.
