LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Henry Veenstra of Zeeland to the Michigan Health Endowment Fund (Health Fund) Board.
The Health Fund works to improve the health and wellness of Michigan residents and reduce the cost of healthcare, with a special focus on children and seniors. Priority areas include behavioral health, healthy aging, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, infant mortality, technology enhancements, health-related transportation needs, and foodborne illness prevention. In addition, the Health Fund runs the Michigan Medigap Subsidy to help older adults and individuals with disabilities afford supplemental Medicare coverage.
“I am confident Henry’s four decades of health care experience will be a great asset to this board and thank him for dedicating his time and abilities to serve Michiganders,” Snyder said.
Veenstra retired in 2015 as the president of Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital. He served 44 years in the health care field and four years as an intelligence operations specialist in the United States Air Force. He is a life fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Michigan Hospital Association Health Foundation Board of Directors. Veenstra holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from Grand Valley State University. He will serve as the nominee of the Senate Majority Leader and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jim Murray.
Veenstra will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Oct. 1, 2020. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
