LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Helen Zeerip of Allegan as well as the reappointments of Ron Boji of Orchard Lake and Michael D. Hayes of Midland to the Michigan State Transportation Commission.
The six-member commission is the policy-making body for all state transportation programs. No more than three members may be from the same political party.
"These individuals have extensive backgrounds and I’m confident they will work well together to ensure safe and reliable transportation for Michiganders,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Zeerip is the president of the trucking company Teddy’s Transport. She’s also the founder and board president of Grant Me Hope, an organization that encourages and assists with the adoption of older children in the foster care system. Zeerip holds an associate’s degree in business management and sales and marketing from Davenport University. She will represent Independents and fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Lynn Afendoulis.
Reappointments:
Boji is the president of the Boji Group. He previously worked in the technology industry as a representative of large computer hardware and software firms, and served on the Children’s Trust Fund Board and the Michigan Strategic Fund Board. Boji holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Michigan State University. He will continue to represent Republicans.
Hayes is the president/CEO of the Midland Center for the Arts and founder of Main Street Consulting. He retired from the Dow Chemical Co. in 2008 as vice president of executive relations. He currently serves as a member of the International Authority for the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Hayes holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in public administration from Central Michigan University. He will continue to represent Republicans.
Zeerip will serve the remainder of a three-year term expiring Dec. 21, 2018. Boji and Hayes will serve three-year terms expiring Dec. 21, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
