LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Mary Rising of Fenton to the State Waterways Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the seven-member commission is an advisory body responsible for the acquisition, construction and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
"I am confident Mary will be a great addition to this commission and I thank her for her willingness to serve in this role," Snyder said.
Rising is the office manager for Action Water Sports of Fenton, Inc. and teaches a ladies’ boat driving clinic. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan. She will represent the marine-trades industry without owning or operating a harbor or marina and will replace Alex Declercq.
Rising will serve a three-year term expiring Sept. 18, 2020. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
