LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Judge Beth Gibson of Newberry and Richard Barch of Ann Arbor to the Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees.

The eight-person board is the governing body of the university.

“Judge Gibson and Richard have diverse backgrounds that make them a great asset to this board and to the university,” Snyder said.

Judge Gibson is chief judge of the 92nd District Court and was recently appointed to the new Trial Court Funding Commission. She is vice chair of the Judicial Council for the Michigan Bar Association, secretary of the Michigan District Judges Association Legislative Committee, and is an active member of the American Bar Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She will replace Douglas Bovin.

Barch retired in 2015 as CEO and President of Stauder, Barch & Associates Inc, one of Michigan’s largest municipal bond advisors. Barch graduated from the University of Oklahoma and attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds an honorary doctorate from Lake Superior State University. He will replace James Curran.

Members serve eight-year terms expiring Jan. 27, 2026. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
