LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Willie Brooks of Rochester Hills to the Mental Health Diversion Council.
The council is housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and helps strengthen the state's mental health system. It offers solutions to improve services for Michiganders living with mental health conditions in the criminal justice system to help find ways to divert them from incarceration when appropriate and to ensure better quality of life, safety and independence.
"Willie’s experience will be a great asset to the council,” Snyder said. “I am confident he and his fellow council members will provide the necessary care and support for those living with mental health conditions.”
Brooks is currently serving as the CEO of the Oakland Community Health Network and will be assuming the role of the CEO of the Detroit-Wayne Mental Health Authority in March 2018. He holds a bachelor’s degree from William Tyndale College, a master’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in economics from Walsh College. He will represent a Medicaid pre-paid inpatient health plan (PIHP) and will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Carmen McIntyre.
Brooks will serve the remainder of a four-year term to expire Jan. 30, 2020.
