LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Glenn Vogel of Fremont and the reappointment of Ralph Oomen of Hart to the Michigan Carrot Commission.
The five-member commission prepares and oversees the carrot marketing program budget to promote the advancement of Michigan's carrot industry.
"I thank Glenn and Ralph for their commitment to overseeing Michigan’s carrot marketing program," Snyder said.
Appointment:
Vogel farms over 1,500 acres of carrots, onions, squash, parsnips and green beans. He was the first in the region to grow carrots and onions on mineral soil in Michigan. Vogel was awarded the Michigan Master Vegetable Farmer Award in 1994 and 2017. He will represent process growers and replaces Stanley VanSingel.
Reappointment:
Oomen Farms is a family vegetable farm with fruit, livestock, corn and small grains for rotation. Ooman was named Master Farmer of the Year in 2001 by the Michigan Vegetable Council and is the president of Oomen Brothers, Inc. He will continue to represent fresh growers.
The appointees will serve a three-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2020. Appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
