Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointment to the Certificate of Need Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Amy McKenzie of Macomb and the reappointment of Tom Mittelbrun of Lake Orion to the Certificate of Need Commission. 

The 11-member commission is a state program that works to help balance the cost, quality and access to Michigan's health care system.

"I thank Amy and Tom for their dedication to making health care affordable and available to everyone in Michigan," Snyder said.

Appointment:

McKenzie is the president of the Family Medicine Foundation of Michigan Board and Associate Medical Director of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. McKenzie holds a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Ph.D. from Northeast Ohio Medical University. She will represent Independents and nonprofit health care corporations and replaces Marc Keshishian.

Reappointment:

Mittelbrun is the executive director of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. He holds a journeyman wireman certificate from Electrical Industry Training Center, a bachelor’s degree in business management from Oakland University, and a certified employee benefits specialist certificate from the Wharton School of Business. He will continue to represent Democrats and organized labor unions.

McKenzie and Mittelbrun will serve three-year terms expiring Jan. 1, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
