LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Richard Bacolor of Ann Arbor to the MiSTEM Advisory Council.
The 11-member council was created to advise the governor, state Legislature, the Department of Talent and Economic Development, and the Department of Education with recommendations designed to improve and promote innovation and collaboration in STEM education and prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“I thank Richard for his enthusiasm for STEM education and I’m confident his experience will be a positive asset to this council,” Snyder said.
Bacolor is a science curriculum consultant for Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agencies and a technology director and Science Matters coordinator for the Michigan Science Teachers Association. He previously spent 19 years as a middle school teacher and two years as an inquiry group practitioner for Research+Practice Collaboratory, where he participated in a grant-funded program that connected educational researchers with current practitioners to improve STEM education. Bacolor holds a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Eastern Michigan University. He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jim Heath.
Bacolor will serve a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
