Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointment to the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Charles (Dan) Christner of Brighton to the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board.

The board is responsible for general oversight of retirement and survivor and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts and certain community colleges and universities.

“I am confident Dan will continue to serve this board well in its oversight and protection of retiree benefits and taxpayer investments,” Snyder said.

Christner retired from Brighton High School in 2014 after 28 years. He also served as a middle school and high school teacher in the Chesaning School District, a high school basketball coach for 26 years, a baseball coach for 24 years, and a football coach for four years. Christner holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University and a master’s degree from Marygrove College. He will continue to represent retired teachers. 

Christner will serve a four-year term to expire March 30, 2022. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
