Thursday, March 8, 2018

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Lawrence (Larry) Herren of Farmington and Christine Nelson of Charlotte to the Michigan Board of Social Work.

The nine-member board, housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.

“I am confident Larry and Christine will be great assets to this board,” Snyder said.

Herren is a behavioral health supervisor, educational director and lead social worker at Community and Home Supports, Inc. He is also an adjunct instructor of social work courses at Madonna University and a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Herren holds an associate degree in mental health from Oakland Community College, a bachelor’s degree in social science from Oakland University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. He will represent professionals and replace Kenneth Mazur.

Nelson is a constituent relations representative in the Executive Office of Governor Rick Snyder. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social relations and criminal policy from Michigan State University. She will represent the general public and replace Teresa Muscat.

Appointees will serve four-year terms to expire Dec. 31, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
