Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Board of Speech Language Pathology

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Nick Carlson of Spring Lake and Denise Ludwig of Grand Rapids to the Board of Speech Language Pathology.
The 11-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with regulating the licensure and practice of speech-language pathologists.
"Nick and Denise both have great experience and I am confident they will serve this board well,” Snyder said.
Carlson is the vice president of Donated Good Operations for Goodwill Industries of Grand Rapids and previously served on the Michigan Board of Occupational Therapists. He holds a bachelor’s degree in youth ministry and a master’s degree in religious studies from Olivet Nazarene University. He will represent the general public and replaces Janelle Edmunds.
Ludwig is a licensed speech-language pathologist and an associate professor and assistant department chair for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders within the College of Allied Health at Grand Valley State University. She also serves as chair of the Speech-Language Pathology Academy for the National Academies of Practice SLP Executive Board. Ludwig holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan, respectively, as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership, research and technology from Western Michigan University. She will represent professionals and replaces Sarah Clement.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate
