LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Anne Blankenhorn of Haslett and Karin Nanos of Huntington Woods to the Michigan Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers with Developmental Disabilities.
The 21-member council advises the Michigan Department of Education in the preparation of applications for financial and other assistance for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities. The council also advises and assists the department regarding the appropriate services for children from birth through the age of five.
“This board ensures parents have the resources needed for their children to live healthy lives,” Snyder said. “I thank these individuals for their support of Michigan children with developmental disabilities.”
Blankenhorn is the education policy advisory for the Senate Majority Policy Office. She was previously a teacher at Walter French Academy and a teacher of American culture for the Visiting International Professional Program at Michigan State University. She currently serves on the Capital Area Literacy Coalition. Blankenhorn holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in French language and literature from the University of Michigan and master’s degrees in telecommunication and French language and literature from Michigan State University. She will represent the Michigan Legislature and replace Phil Pavlov.
Nanos is an early intervention coordinator, speech language pathologist and lead teacher for Berkley Public Schools. She previously served as a speech-language pathologist for Detroit Public Schools and Burger School for Students with Autism. Nanos holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in special education - speech and language pathology from Eastern Michigan University, as well as an early childhood endorsement from the University of Michigan. She will represent public or private providers of early intervention services and replaces Anne Dallaire.
Blankenhorn will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2020. Nanos will serve a four-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2021.
