Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to the PreK-12 Literacy Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Cynthia Pape of Saginaw to the PreK-12 Literacy Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Education, the 13-member commission advises and assists in matters relating to the assessment, professional development, education programming, socioeconomic challenges, best practices, collaboration, parental engagement and teaching of literacy.
"I thank Cynthia for her dedication to ensuring Michigan children have the resources necessary to learn to read and write," Snyder said.
Pape is the president and director of READ Association of Saginaw County and serves as adjunct faculty of English for Saginaw Valley State University. Pape previously served 28 years as a Title I teacher for Saginaw Public Schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in reading specialist from Saginaw Valley State University. She will serve as the nominee of the Senate Majority Leader.
Pape will serve the remainder of a two-year term expiring Oct. 31, 2018.
