LANSING, Mich. – In an effort to reduce the number of traffic accidents during power outages, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley today signed legislation clarifying that malfunctioning traffic signals are to be treated as four way stops.
“Clarifying this law will not only reduce the number of accidents during these power outages, but it will also keep Michiganders consistent with what is taught during driver’s training,” Lt. Gov. Brian Calley said.
Senate Bill 521, sponsored by state Sen. Rick Jones, is now Public Act 109 of 2018.
Calley also signed one additional measure:
HB 5190, sponsored by state Rep. Tim Sneller, allows the Liquor Control Commission to issue special liquor licenses for national sporting events such as the 2018, 2019 and 2020 Professional Golfers’ Association Tour Champions Tournament. The bill is now PA 110 of 2018.
Article V Section 26 of the Michigan Constitution gives authority to the lieutenant governor to sign legislation when the governor is out of state.
