LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Traci Ruiz of Bath to the Michigan Board of Medicine.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the board oversees the practice of medicine and serves as the state's licensing board. It includes 19 members: 10 doctors, one physician's assistant, and eight public members.
“I thank Traci for her commitment to this board and I’m confident her experience will be a positive asset to this board," Snyder said.
Ruiz recently retired as a lieutenant for the Lansing Police Department after 25 years of service. She currently operates a consulting firm specializing in self-defense training and the detection and prevention of elder abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Ruiz holds an associate’s and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Lansing Community College and Michigan State University, respectively, as well as a master’s degree in adult and continuing education from Michigan State University. She will represent the general public and replace Lisa Huta.
Ruiz will serve a four-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2021. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
