LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Jon Unruh of Brighton and the reappointment of Bryce Tracy of St. Ignace to the Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board.
The board oversees Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network, which provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members. It also adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the Michigan Public Safety Communications System. The board is responsible for advising the Governor on all interoperability aspects of current and future technology in the state to ensure the public safety community is well prepared today and in the future with the emergency communications ecosystem.
“I thank this group for their work to ensure Michiganders have access to emergency communications systems,” Snyder said.
Appointment:
Unruh is the fire chief for the Farmington Hills Fire Department. He previously served as a captain and paramedic for Livonia Fire and Rescue, and as a public safety dispatcher for the Farmington Hills Police Department. Unruh holds an associate degree in fire science from Lansing Community College, a bachelor’s degree in public safety studies from Siena Heights University, and a master’s degree in homeland security and emergency management from Eastern Michigan University, where he also attended the Center for Regional and National Security School of Fire Staff and Command. He will represent local emergency first responders and replace Adam Carroll.
Reappointment:
Tracy is the 911 coordinator for Mackinac County 911. He is active on several emergency management and fire service organizations and is a trustee of the Michigan Communication Directors Association. He will continue to represent local emergency first responders.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring April 30, 2022.
