Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment, reappointments to the Michigan Wheat Promotion Committee

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Jason Dunning of Fremont and the reappointments of William Hunt of Davison and Art Loeffler of Frankenmuth to the Michigan Wheat Promotion Committee.

The nine-member committee oversees the wheat marketing program and consists of wheat farmers from across Michigan.

“Wheat is an important commodity in Michigan’s strong agricultural industry, and I thank these individuals for their dedication to this committee,” Snyder said. 

Appointment:

Dunning is an acting partner in Dunning Farms, LLC, a 5th generation family farm which farms 1,200 acres of wheat for feed and cash crops. He is also employed at the Wilbur-Ellis Company where he serves as an agronomist and salesman. Dunning holds a bachelor’s degree in science with a minor in agribusiness management from Michigan State University. He will represent District 1 replace Dean Kantola.

Reappointments:

Hunt is the owner of Hunt Farms Inc, a cash crop farm where he has farmed for 42 years harvesting soybeans, corn and wheat. He also operates a small trucking fleet servicing elevators and farms. He serves in numerous volunteer and leadership positions within the community, including as an executive board member on the Genesee County Farm Bureau. He will continue to represent District 4.

Loeffler is the president of Star of the West Milling Co. He previously served as an internal auditor for Kraft Foods and Yeo & Yeo CPA firm and as the controller of Star of the West Milling Co. Loeffler serves on the Frankenmuth City Council as mayor pro-tem and is past president of Michigan Millers Association. Loeffler holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Michigan State University and is a certified public accountant. He will continue to represent District 9.

Members will serve three-year terms expiring May 31, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the senate.
