LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Greg Janik of Saugatuck to the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council (MFFTC).
Originally created by Public Act 291 of 1966, the MFFTC serves the training and certification needs of fire departments and fire fighters across the state. The council prepares and publishes training standards, while establishing courses of study, certifying instructors and establishing regional training centers.
Pursuant to Public Act 144 of 2017, the council was amended to be composed of nine members, eight to be appointed by the Governor.
“Greg has served in the firefighting field for many years,” Snyder said. “His insight will help maintain and improve safety standards and procedures to keep Michigan fire fighters safe.”
Janik is the fire chief of the Saugatuck Township Fire Department, previously serving as the state fire marshal inspector. He holds an associate degree in applied science from the College of DuPage and will represent the Michigan Municipal League.
Janik will serve an initial four-year term expiring Jan. 31, 2022. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
