Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Michigan Board of Dentistry

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Lori Barnhart of Lennon, Grace Curcuru of New Baltimore and Irene Tseng of Livonia to the Michigan Board of Dentistry.

The 19-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in overseeing and regulating the practice of more than 7,800 dentists, 10,100 dental hygienists and 1,400 dental assistants.

"Each appointee has experience and qualifications that ensure me they will represent the dental field and its needs well," Snyder said. “I thank them for their commitment to this board.”

Barnhart is a registered dental assistant at Douglas L. Schneck, DDS, in Flint. She is the Mission of Mercy supply lead for the Michigan Dental Association Foundation and a member of the education committee for the Michigan Dental Association. Barnhart holds an associate degree in applied science and a certificate in dental assisting from Mott Community College. She will represent dental assistants and replace Kelly Molloy.

Curcuru has been performing periodontal procedures at Harry Mighion DDS and Associates for more than 30 years. She also serves as an adjunct assistant clinical professor of periodontics for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Curcuru holds a certificate in periodontics, a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene and doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She will serve as a dentist who is a dental school faculty member and holds a health profession specialty certification. She will replace Deborah Priestap.

Tseng has been the president, practitioner and owner of Irene A. Tseng, DDS, PC, for more than 30 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and a doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She will represent dentists and replace Diane Hines.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2022. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
