Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointments to the Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointments of George (Judd) Van Coppenolle of Adrian and Kevin Lepak of Clarkston to the Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals.

The seven-member board reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) cases, including safety and health citations, orders and appeals.

"I thank Judd and Kevin for continuing to serve on this board," Snyder said. “The appointees’ years of experience give me confidence they will represent the voices of their colleagues as well as other industry workers.”

Van Coppenolle is the business manager and financial secretary for Local 333 Plumbers and Pipefitters where he oversees the daily business affairs and operations. Van Coppenolle is a licensed plumber and holds a bachelor’s degree in management/organizational development from Spring Arbor University. He will continue to represent labor in the general industry.

Lepak is a process safety coordinator for Marathon Petroleum Company. He has worked with Marathon since 1997 and has experience as an environmental supervisor, advanced HES Professional and a radiation safety officer. Lepak is a certified industrial hygienist and a certified radiation safety officer and holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s degree in industrial hygiene from Wayne State University. Lepak will continue to represent management in the general industry.

Members will serve four-year terms expiring March 18, 2022. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
