LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Mary Billman of Kentwood and Walter Harper of Rose City to the Michigan Board of Counseling.
The nine-member board assists the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs with the licensing and oversight of more than 9,000 counselors in Michigan.
“Counselors provide Michiganders with help in all areas of life, and I thank the appointees for guaranteeing residents continue to recieve professional and quality service and care," Snyder said.
Billman recently retired as a teacher for East Grand Rapids High School after 20 years of service. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Michigan University and a master’s degree in curriculum instruction from Texas A&M University. She will represent the general public and replace Kimberly Easterle Mattes.
Harper is a retired paraprofessional from West Branch Rose City Schools. He is a member of the Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Posse and is a volunteer for the Michigan State Police Angel Program. He holds an associate degree in construction technology from Delta College and a bachelor’s degree in trade and technical education from Ferris State University. He will represent the general public and replace Carol Giacoletto.
Members will serve four-year terms expiring June 30, 2022. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
