Press Secretary leaving to join Business Leaders for Michigan
LANSING, Mich. – Press Secretary Anna Heaton, who has helped shape the narrative of Michigan’s successes, challenges and reinvention, will depart the executive office for a new role in early October, Gov. Rick Snyder announced today.
Heaton will join the nonprofit advocacy group Business Leaders for Michigan, serving as Vice President of Marketing and Communications. She will continue working on the governor’s team through the first week of October.
"Anna is truly a devoted Michigander who understands inside and out how the state has changed over the past eight years,” Snyder said. “She brought a fresh perspective during the second term as we ramped up our to-do list and worked out how to best communicate major changes at the state level that have forever changed Michigan’s future.”
A native West Michigander, Heaton joined the Snyder Administration in early 2015. She previously worked in communications for the House Republican Caucus under Speaker Jase Bolger, and on Capitol Hill as an assistant to then-Congresswoman Candice Miller. Heaton is a graduate of Western Michigan University.
"It has been an incredible experience working for Gov. Snyder," Heaton said. "Hearing directly from Michigan residents about how their lives have changed in the last eight years has made me more committed than ever to this wonderful state and the development of better public policy, and I look forward to building on the foundation we’ve established under the Governor’s leadership and staying true to our new normal."
After Heaton’s departure, Communications Director Ari Adler will serve as the primary spokesperson for Gov. Snyder.
