Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointments to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Marcie Brogan of Birmingham and Dick Posthumus of Alto to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. 

Formed in 1895, this commission oversees operations and maintenance of Mackinac State Historic Parks, which include Fort Mackinac, historic downtown Mackinac Island, Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, Mackinac Island State Park, Colonial Michilimackinac, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, and the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. Per state law, the seven-member commission is appointed by the Governor and not more than four members may be of the same political affiliation.

"I thank Marcie and Dick for their commitment to protecting and preserving these Pure Michigan treasures, " Snyder said. “They both are Michiganders who are passionate about all Mackinac Island has to offer and I know they will work hard to preserve its history for future generations.”

Brogan is the CFO of Ignite Social Media, one of the country’s first shops exclusively concentrating on social media. In addition, Brogan is owner, founder, and chair of Brogan & Partners. She is a board member for The Parade Company, the Detroit Economic Club, and the Tyree Guyton Foundation.. Brogan earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy at Ursuline College for Women and a master’s degree from the University of Detroit. She will represent Independents and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of William Deary.

Posthumus serves as the chief of staff to Gov. Rick Snyder. He previously served as lieutanant governor under former Gov. John Engler from 1999 to 2003 and served as Michigan Senate majority leader from 1991 to 1998 . Posthumus earned a bachelor’s degree in public affairs management and agricultural economics from Michigan State University. He will represent Republicans and fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Marcie Brogan.

Brogan will serve the remainder of a six-year term expiring April 12, 2019 and Posthumus will serve the remainder of a six-year term expiring April 12, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
