Gov. Rick Snyder makes reappointment to Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the reappointment of Lawrence Hummel of Carson City to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Advisory Commission.

Housed within the Michigan Department of State Police, Office of Highway Safety Planning, the 11-member commission identifies traffic safety challenges and works to develop, promote and implement strategies to support traffic safety programs.

"Lawrence has brought great perspective and ideas to this commission, and I am confident he will continue to do so in the years to come," said Snyder.

Hummel is the county highway engineer manager for the Van Buren County Road Commission. Previously, he worked as a highway engineer for the county. He also has served as the county engineer for the Montcalm County Road Commission, and as the Grand Region Bridge Program engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation. Hummel earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University and a master's degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. He will continue to represent local government.

Hummel will serve a three-year term expiring May 27, 2021.
