LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced initial appointments to the Environmental Rules Review Committee.
Pursuant to Public Act 267 of 2018, the Environmental Rules Review Committee (ERRC) was created as an independent body within the Office of Performance and Transformation to oversee all rule-making of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.The board is comprised of four ex-officio department heads and 12 members, appointed by the governor, who represent different industries and organizations outlined in statute.
“The appointees each have different roles in the environmental field, and I am confident they will use their experiences to ensure the DEQ is creating rules that will benefit and protect Michigan’s environment and natural resources,” Snyder said.
Terms expiring Oct. 4, 2020:
Janet Barlow of Clio is the owner and manager of Jan’s Professional Dry Cleaners, Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from Michigan State University. She will represent Independents and a statewide organization that represents small businesses.
James Clift of Lansing is a policy director for the Michigan Environmental Council and was previously an environmental policy analyst for the Michigan Senate. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He will represent Democrats and a statewide environmental organization.
Eric Pessell of Delton is the health officer for the Calhoun County Public Health Department and previously served as the environmental health director for Kent County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Olivet College and will represent Independents and public health professionals
Nicholas Ramos is the manager of environmental policy for General Motors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial and environmental health management from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Davenport University. He will represent Republicans and a statewide manufacturing organization.
Terms expiring Oct. 4, 2021:
Tyler Ernst of Lansing is assistant general counsel for Michigan Farm Bureau. He holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and a law degree from Michigan State University. He will represent Republicans and a statewide agricultural organization.
Mark Fowler of East Jordan is the superintendent of water / wastewater for Boyne City. He holds an associate degree in business administration from Northwestern Michigan College and a certificate in wastewater treatment technology from Northern Michigan University. He will represent Republicans and local governments.
John Myers of Northville is a licensed professional engineer, serving as director of innovation and business optimization for Waste Management of Michigan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Lawrence Technological University. He will represent Democrats and the solid waste management industry.
Grant Trigger of West Bloomfield is the Michigan cleanup manager for the Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response (RACER) Trust. He serves on the Great Lakes Compact Council and is a founding member of the Michigan chapter of the National Brownfield Association. Trigger holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences engineering from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Detroit Law School. He will represent Independents and the general public.
Terms expiring Oct. 4, 2022:
Helen Taylor of Okemos is Michigan state director for The Nature Conservancy and currently serves on the Great Lakes Commission. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Northwestern University in Chicago and will represent Independents and a statewide land conservancy organization.
David Maness of Midland is the president of Maness Petroleum, chairman of the Isabella Bank Corporation and serves on the board of directors for the Michigan Oil and Gas Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in applied geophysics from Michigan Technological University and will represent Republicans and the oil and gas industry.
Fadi Mourad of Farmington Hills is a licensed professional engineer and the director of environmental strategy for DTE Energy. He holds bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering from the University of Toledo and a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Wayne State University. He will represent Independents and public utilities that engage in the generation, transmission or distribution of electricity.
Robert Nederhood of Grosse Pointe Park is senior counsel for Foley and Lardner, LLP and previously served as deputy director of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – Office of Regulatory Reinvention. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from Calvin College and a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. He will represent Independents and the general public.
After initial appointments, members serve four-year terms subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
