LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointments of Barb Brooks of Boyne City and Peter Beauregard of Grosse Pointe Shores and the reappointment of Dennis Nickels of Grand Haven to the State Waterways Commission.
Housed within the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the seven-member commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
"I thank these individuals for their commitment to this commission," Snyder said. “Each one of them has a wealth of experience and I am confident they will serve this commission well.”
Appointments:
Brooks serves as the executive assistant and harbor master for Boyne City. She holds an associate degree from North Central Community College. She will represent persons residing north of Townline 16 in the Lower Peninsula and replace Ward Walstrom.
Beauregard is the owner/operator of Michigan Harbor Properties and serves as committee chairman of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club Board of Directors. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwood University. Hewill represent the general public and replace Denny Grinold.
Reappointment:
Nickels is a retired principal with Deloitte & Touche, LLP. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License and a U.S. Merchant Marine 100-ton Ship's Master License. Additionally, Nickels earned a degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. He will continue to represent the general public.
Members will serve three-year terms expiring Sept. 18, 2021. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
