Though all major categories of goods saw increases over the year in Detroit and the U.S., some of the detailed expenditure categories saw declines. For example, transportation prices have increased overall, but gasoline prices in the Detroit MSA have declined by 2.0 percent over the year, while nationally, prices have fallen by 3.1 percent. Contrary to the decline seen in Michigan, prices for food at home rose 1.9 percent nationally over the year.
