April 2025 Results in Reduced Online Job Advertisements for Michigan

In April 2025, 163,900 online job advertisements were posted in Michigan. This was a reduction of 5,200 (-3.1 percent) advertisements from the previous month and 11,200 (-6.4 percent) from April 2024. Of these ads, 65,900 were newly posted, meaning they did not carry over from the previous month. This marked the fewest newly posted ads for any month in 2025.
April saw the lowest number of newly posted online job advertisements in 2025 so far.

Supply and Demand
The supply and demand ratio is an indicator of the number of unemployed people (supply) in relation to the number of available online job advertisements (demand). In April 2025, Michigan experienced a supply and demand ratio of 1.45. A ratio of 1.45 means that there were approximately 145 unemployed people for every 100 jobs advertised online. This was a substantial decrease from the March 2025 supply and demand ratio of 1.81. Most of this change can be attributed to a large reduction in the number of unemployed people over the month.
Occupation Spotlight: Industrial Engineers
In April 2025, just under 720 online job advertisements were posted for Industrial engineers in Michigan. Industrial engineers had fewer advertisements since April 2024, losing nearly 210 ads (-22.5 percent). However, this occupation did not experience a reduction over the month. Instead, this occupation saw an increase of almost 10 ads (+1.1 percent) from March 2025.
There were 570 online job ads for Industrial engineers that listed a minimum education level required to perform the job. A minimum education level requirement lists the lowest level of education an employer will accept, but employers may prefer a higher education level than what is listed. Of the jobs listing a minimum education level, 83.9 percent required a bachelor's degree.
The metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) with the most online job ad postings for Industrial engineers were Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood, and Lansing-East Lansing. These three MSAs accounted for nearly 70 percent of this occupation’s advertisements. The employers that posted the most online job advertisements for this occupation were Ford, General Motors, and GE Aerospace.
Occupation Spotlight: Mechanical Engineers
In April 2025, 580 online job advertisements were posted for Mechanical engineers in Michigan. This occupation’s advertisements followed the statewide trend with a decrease of 30 ads (-4.8 percent) over the month and 150 ads (-20.5 percent) since April 2024. Of the ads that listed a minimum education level for this occupation, 83.3 percent required a bachelor's degree.
Just under 360 of the online job advertisements for Mechanical engineers were located within the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn MSA in April 2025. This accounted for 62.1 percent of this occupation’s ads for the month. The Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood MSAs had the next largest share of online job ads for this occupation with 11.6 percent and 7.3 percent, respectively. Based on the online job advertisements posted in April, the top employers of this occupation were Ford, General Motors, and Altair Engineering.
Occupation Spotlight: Electrical Engineers
Michigan recorded 550 online job advertisements for Electrical engineers in April 2025. This occupation had a reduction of nearly 40 ads (-5.9 percent) from the previous month and 100 ads (-15.5 percent) from April 2024. Of the ads that posted a minimum education level for this occupation, 90.7 percent required a bachelor’s degree.
In April 2025, Mechanical engineers and Electrical engineers experienced an over-the-month reduction in online job ads while Industrial engineers saw modest growth.

While the MSAs that had the most online job advertisements for Mechanical engineers and Electrical engineers were the same, the distribution of ads was slightly different. Detroit-Warren-Dearborn had the largest share of the postings for Electrical engineers at 57 percent, followed by Ann Arbor (16.1 percent) and Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood (9.7 percent). The employers that posted the most online job ads for this occupation were CDM Smith, Lincoln Electric, and General Motors.
