Collections

Since at least the mid-20th century—shortly after the Michigan Revenue Act of 1941—the Collection Services Bureau (CSB) has helped make sure everyone pays their fair share. CSB collects overdue taxes for the state, including income tax, business taxes, and special taxes. It also helps about a dozen agencies, like the Secretary of State, collect outstanding state debts.

Though no one loves collections, this work matters: it supports vital services and ensures fairness for all taxpayers. The bureau treats Michiganders with respect, helping those who’ve fallen behind find a path forward.
