Official Statement - State Police Completes Investigation into Nov. 2 Officer-Involved Shooting

The investigative report, video footage and all related evidence from the Nov. 2, 2024, fatal officer-involved shooting of Rayvon Shahid in Flint were submitted to the Michigan Department of Attorney General for review yesterday afternoon.

“A loss of life during any police encounter is tragic,” stated Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “All incidents that involve a State Police member discharging their firearm are immediately and thoroughly investigated, and this incident is no exception. I previously met with community leaders in the city, as well as talked with Rayvon’s mother, to assure them of our commitment to a full and impartial investigation, which has now been completed.”

The MSP members involved remain on administrative leave. The Michigan State Police Troopers Association contract prohibits the release of a member’s name unless they are charged with a crime.

The MSP will fully cooperate with the Michigan Department of Attorney General as they conduct their review.
