During this monthly series for active aging adults, participants will have opportunities to meet our on-site educators, listen to guest presenters and take part in various natural resource-themed activities. All programs begin at 9 a.m. and include pastries, coffee and tea upon entry. At 9:30 a.m., presentations will begin, so sit back and enjoy your snack during an exciting and informative program, then wrap up with time to explore the OAC exhibits.
In December, let’s discuss the value of trees, from either where the sidewalk ends, or where it begins. We will explain “wildland-urban interface,” where human development meets undeveloped wildland. Does a tree really know where it’s at?
Presenter Joe Aiken is the Great Lakes and Canada senior regional technical manager for Arborjet. His 40-plus years in the tree care industry have provided a diverse and valuable experience, which has permitted him to guide others in plant health care decisions. He has worked in all phases of tree care, and as a licensed applicator and an International Society of Arboriculture-certified arborist, he developed a strong interest in plant health care and gained the experience and desire to continue his education.
Joe routinely conducts product seminars and presentations on various treatment methods, which are attended by arborists, city foresters, plant health care technicians, master gardeners, university extension agents, grounds departments and research personnel. He also supports Arborjet’s research department and cooperating universities, assisting with tree injections on research sites, and other aspects of research required to aid in development of equipment and formulations needed to control today’s invasive pests.
Joe is a proud founding member of the Arboriculture Society of Michigan Foundation, curator of the Arboriculture Historical Society and recently was awarded with Michigan State University’s Honorary Forestry Alumni Award. In 200, he joined the team at Arborjet, where he shares his strong belief in tree preservation with clients and educates others on the benefit of more environmentally friendly solutions for our urban forest problems.
Preregistration is required. Cost is $8 per person; payment can be made for groups or individuals.
