Join a naturalist for a casual stroll through one of our state parks or local historic areas. Each month we’ll focus on a topic related to natural or cultural history. Wear your walking shoes and dress for the weather – we’ll go out rain, snow, or shine! Meet at the designated location. Maps will be provided upon registration. Trail conditions vary – see descriptions.

In February, we have a two-fer! We’ll start off at the Detroit Institute of Arts with a guided tour, then break for lunch. After lunch, we’ll wander across Woodward Avenue to the Detroit Public Library Main Branch.

The DIA is one of the premier art museums in the nation. The building itself is a work of art, with the Rivera Court as one of its most renowned features. Even if you have been here before, the guided tour may bring to light new history and perspectives. At the Detroit Public Library, we’ll experience its Art & Architecture Tour. Long considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Detroit, the library is in the Italian Renaissance style. Murals adorn the west entry and walls within the building. There are stairs and an elevator to access the various floors we will be visiting, but also a short flight on the first floor to move from one level down.

Preregistration is required through the Outdoor Adventure Center.

DIA admission fees apply for this program upon entering the DIA. Please note: Residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties receive free admission by providing ID to DIA staff.
