Becoming an Outdoors Woman - Beyond BOW Hunting Safety Courses

- Hunter education field day: Saturday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Becoming an Outdoors Woman is a statewide, woman-only program that teaches outdoor skills such as hunting, fishing, backpacking, shooting sports, kayaking and many more outdoor recreation activities during a full weekend workshop. Beyond BOW workshops range from two to 12 hours and focus on training in and experiencing one or two outdoor skills.
This summer, BOW is teaming up with Outdoor Adventure Center educators to host a women's-only, two-day workshop on Department of Natural Resources recreational safety classes. Prior to the workshop, participants must complete hunter education and/or bow hunter education courses.
Aug. 15: Participants will attend the Michigan Hunter Education Field Day Course taught by DNR instructors and volunteers. Topics will include firearm safety, hunting styles, ethics and wildlife laws.
Aug. 16: Participants will attend the Michigan Bow Hunter Education Field Day Course. Topics will include archery equipment safety, bow hunting styles, outdoor preparedness and wildlife conservation. This course will also include time shooting a compound bow and crossbow!
Preregistration is required. Cost is $30 per person for one day, or $50 per person for both.
Prerequisite is required: The field day sessions are the second step to the Michigan hunter safety courses. There are two options for the prerequisite courses:
