Muskegon State Park

Muskegon State Park is home to 3 miles of breathtaking shoreline (2 miles along Lake Michigan and 1 mile on Muskegon Lake), Snug Harbor, forested dunes, two campgrounds, picnic areas, multiple trails and more. One of the park's popular features is the blockhouse that was originally built by the CCC in the 1930s to provide opportunities for visitors to see in all direction. It sits on the highest point in Muskegon County.

The year-round Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park boasts an Olympian-designed luge track, an ice-skating trail, a sledding hill, cross-country ski trails, a 1,300-foot dual zip line, a one-of-a-kind summer luge track, an archery range and much more. A ticket is required, and reservations are available.


A variety of local attractions are located nearby, including Michigan Adventure, downtown Muskegon, Hoffmaster State Park and the USS Silversides Submarine Museum.

There is small observation platform that resembles an eagle’s nest located along Lost Lake Trail.

You may not possess or consume an alcoholic beverage in the park's day-use areas April 1 through Labor Day (unless the park manager has granted written authorization through an event permit).

A boat launch located in the Snug Harbor day-use area provides access to Muskegon Lake.

The Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park sells snacks and slushies, hammocks, frisbees, camping essentials and merchandise.

Metal detecting is allowed in certain park areas. Please consult the park map for designated locations and review applicable regulations. Only registered campers can metal detect in campgrounds.

Paddling is a popular activity on Muskegon Lake.

Pets are allowed along the Lake Michigan shoreline outside of the designated swimming area (with the exception of marked piping plover nest habitat). Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control. All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

There are two picnic shelters at Snug Harbor that include picnic tables, charcoal grills and electrical service (Pines Shelter location only). Shelter reservations can be made 12 months in advance at MiDNRReservations.com.

A sanitation station is located near both campgrounds. There is potable water available and two lanes.

A buoyed swim area is in the park’s day-use area on Lake Michigan. There is an accessible walkway to the water and a beach wheelchair available to use.

    The modern campground, divided into two loops and open year-round for camping, it's situated on the other side of a large dune from Lake Michigan. There is a stairway to access Lake Michigan. Most of the sites are wooded.

    The campground has two loops and is located near the navigation channel walkway . The first loop sites (#1-92) are adjacent to the navigation channel, and the second loop sites (#101-147) are located near the large dune and Muskegon Lake. The second loop features larger sites.

    Two mini cabins in the Lake Michigan Campground are open year-round. The is potable water available in the campground (late April to mid October); however, you must provide your own water in the off-season.

    Each sleeps four people and includes two bunk beds, a mini fridge, microwave, high-top table, bar stools, heat and lighting. You must provide your own linens and cooking ware.

    There is a fire ring located outside, but no cooking equipment.

    The park's yurt is located in the woods in the far east end of the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park.

    This 20-foot-diameter yurt sleeps seven with two log bunk beds and stacking cots. You'll also find a table, chairs, a solar lantern and a woodstove for heat (firewood provided). During the warmer months, the modern toilet and shower building are available at the Lake Michigan Campground across the road, otherwise no electricity or running water is provided.

    You must provide your own linens and cooking ware.

    There is a fire ring located outside, but no cooking equipment.

    This rustic group campground is open to civic organizations and is located halfway between the park's two modern campgrounds on Scenic Drive. There are eight sites that can accommodate groups of up to 130 people. Each site provides a picnic table, fire pit and easy access to a potable water faucet. There is a community shelter.
